Download Navionics Route File (.gpx)Kingman Marina has a large transient mooring field and a launch monitoring channel.
There is also limited dockage for boats 25 and under on the gas dock. Cash only. To inquire about these slips, pull up close to the dock and ask the dock staff if they have anything available.
Once we have an idea of how many boats will be participating, we will discuss arrangements with the marina so that they will have enough moorings, slips and launch capacity available for our arrival.
Woods Hole to Chart Room — about 13 miles
Falmouth Harbor to Chart Room -- about 19 miles
Moorings are available in Oak Bluffs and the Oak Bluffs Marina Launch service can be hailed via VHF Channel 77 to bring you to shore. It is common for there to be multiple boats tied up to a single mooring, so if no open moorings are available, raft up to a boat on a mooring and hail the launch from there.
Chart Room to Nancy's — about 23 miles

Download Navionics Route File (.gpx)This year, we are trying out something new. Due to the limited number of slips and dockage in Woods Hole, we are holding the final hand out on Great Harbor amongst a flotilla of rafts and houseboats. Look for the red Mudslide 500 flag.

Question & Answer
A poker run is an event where participants travel to multiple locations to collect a series of playing cards. The player with the best poker hand at the end of the event wins. The event is typically held over a long distance and facilitated by a vehicle such as a boat, motorcycle or bicycle.
How our poker run works:
Each boat pays a $100 entry fee to enter the hand and to be eligible to win the $500 pot. The captain may pay the $100 himself, or raise money from the crew and split the winnings afterwards. This decision is made on a vessel-by-vessel basis. Funds raised over the initial $500 will go towards paying operating costs and defraying the cost of merchandise.
At each location, you will choose a random envelope with a single playing card in it. You will choose two envelopes at the Chart Room, two at Nancy's and one final envelope at the Landfall for a total of five. Envelopes must remained sealed until the final hand is played with judges present. If you tamper with the envelope, you will be disqualified!
At the final location, when all registered boats are present (no earlier than 5PM), the final hand will be played, with each captain opening their five sealed envelopes at the same time. Once opened, the cards will be placed down in front of them on the table immediately for all other captains to see. When all envelopes have been opened, the judge will determine the best hand.
The winning captain will receive $500 cash upon confirmation of their winning hand.
The cost is $100 per boat. This fee includes entrance into the poker run, giving each registered boat a chance to win the $500 pot. The rest of the fees collected will go towards operational costs (website, marketing material) and to defray the cost of merchandise.
No, the fee does not include mudslides. You will need to purchase your own at each location.
At this time, the fee does not include merchandise, but a portion of the funds raised over the initial $500 will go towards reducing the cost of the merchandise. We are hoping to purchase merchandise prior to the event and send around an order form for those interested to estimate our pre-order.
We will be monitoring VHF channel 69.
A 16-foot+ powerboat is recommended for this year's route. Wind conditions can change rapidly in Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound, so your boat should be able to handle a 2 to 3-foot chop or more.
The current route is about 31 miles, so you will also need to make sure you have enough fuel for the journey. Fuel is available at both Kingman Marina (Chart Room stop) and in Oak Bluffs (Nancy's stop).
See above for an explanation of what a poker run is.
In late June, it is typically warm enough to swim (avg. water temperature is in the mid 60s) but the air is not hot by Cape Cod summer standards (avg. high 60s to low 70s).
Since there are 6 hours between the first stop and the final stop and the event covers about 31 miles, the weather conditions could change significantly during the course of the day. A light windbreaker is recommended for open ocean runs, but it is also warm enough to swim so a bathing suit is recommended as well.
Recommended docking locations for each stop are listed above. If you have additional questions, contact Ian at (774) 313 9082.
A detailed look at the following day's weather conditions will happen at the Captain's Meeting on June 23rd. If it is determined that the weather on Saturday, June 24th is unsuitable for our current course, the event will either be moved to the next day on Sunday, June 25th, or the course will be modified to suit the current weather conditions.
